China calls for unconditional lift of all illegal Western sanctions on Syria

New York, SANA-China has renewed its demand for the unconditional lifting of all illegal Western sanctions imposed on Syria.

Xinhua news agency quoted Geng Shuang, China’s deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, as saying “the Western countries have announced a temporary partial suspension of the sanctions after the devastating earthquake that struck Syria last month, but these temporary measures cannot cover the systematic damage caused by long-term sanctions, therefore, the concerned countries must immediately and without any conditions lift all illegal unilateral sanctions on Syria.”

On the Israeli aggression on Aleppo International Airport last Wednesday, the Chinese diplomat expressed his country’s deep concern over these attacks, and stressed the necessity of respecting Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He pointed out that the airport is an important civilian infrastructure and a major hub for transporting humanitarian supplies and its safe operation should be guaranteed.

Geng reiterated China’s call to the foreign forces illegitimately exist in Syria to end their illegal military presence in this country and stop plundering its natural resources, urging the international community to combat terrorism in Syria.

He expressed his country’s welcome to the political development and rapprochement between Syria and the countries of the region.
